Alex only turned 13 in March so has 2 more years in this age group so his performance against many of the USA’s best youth triathletes was even more impressive. Meanwhile Erica Hawley tackled a flat but very technical bike course in Monterrey in 30 degree heat where, as reported, she finished 29th out of 45 starters in a fast time of 1 hr 8 mins and 54 seconds. The juniors swam in a canal so spectators were able to get close to the action. Despite not qualifying for the Youth Olympics Hawley’s time was impressive.
