Bermudians compete at Canadian National Triathlon Championships

This weekend Bermuda’s two top amateur female triathletes, Karen Smith and Laurie Orchard, along with leading juniors Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley will compete in the Canadian National Triathlon Championships in Magog, Quebec.

Karen, who this season has already won the Bermuda National Olympic (Standard) and Sprint Distance Triathlons and won her age group at the Los Cabos Ironman Triathlon, will race over the half ironman distance of 2km, swim, 90km bike and 21km run (Sunday 20th July at 8.05AM Bda time) whilst Laurie, second to Smith in both the Bermuda national championships, will race the Standard Distance Canadian Age Group Championships (40-44 age group) over 1500-m swim, 40km bike and 10km run (Sunday 8.20AM Bda time).

Fresh off their excellent performances in the Flatlands Cup Triathlon Junior Elite races (see post on this blog for details) Tyler and Erica will take on perhaps their biggest challenge yet as they race in the 16-19 Canadian Elite Championships on Saturday 19th July with Tyler starting at 8.30AM Bda time and Erica at 9.30AM Bda time.
