TYLER SMITH AND ERICA HAWLEY – CANADIAN NATIONALS RESULTS

15 year old Tyler Smith produced another outstanding performance finishing 18th today ( Saturday 19th July ) out of 61 starters at the Canadian Junior Elite National Championships for 16-19 year olds and broke the magic 1 hour for sprint distance. Tyler exited the 750 meter swim in 9.02 just behind the lead group (8 mins 34 secs) and then held his own on the bike posting a fast 30 :21 for the 20km bike. He then produced a solid run of 17 min 27 secs for a total of 1 hr 59 mins 17 secs. Russell Pennock, a member of the Canadian Junior Elite Training Programme and well known for his fast run, won the event as he posted 14 mins 55 secs for the 5km run.

Canadian Junior 16-19 Elite Triathlon Champs 2014 – RESULTS

Despite mechanical problems Erica Hawley also performed well in the Female 16-19 National Championships finishing 28th out of 49 starters. Erica completed the swim in 10 mins 30 secs, the bike in 37 mins 52 secs and the 5km run in 21 mins 46 secs for a total time of 1 hr 12 mins 44 secs.Erica lost her chain on a hill on Lap 1 of the bike and fell back a couple of bike packs but kept her cool to record a strong result in the circumstances.
