Tyler Smith, one of the youngest competitors in the field, produced an outstanding performance for Bermuda in Nanjing to reaffirm that he is a huge and exciting talent that can already hold his own with juniors three years older than him.

Tyler  finished 19th out of 32 in a very quick 58 mins 11 secs as he keeps taking chunks of time off his personal best over the 16-19 year old junior elite distance.

He swam the 750m in 9.48 then clocked a quick 29. 32 for the 20km bike before posting 17.43 for the 5km run. With such a fast pace being set by the leaders it was always going to be tough on the run but as Tyler develops the strength and stamina that comes with age there is no reason to think that he can’t drop his run time to the 15.15 times being posted by the podium finishers.

More to follow on the race when I hear from team manager Karen Smith.
