TYLER SMITH – YOG RACE REPORT

Congrats to Tyler on a great race.

This from team manager (and mum ! ) Karen :

Tyler had a respectable race today in Nanjing in the Men’s individual sprint triathlon. He struggled in the swim with a time of 9:48 for the 750m. Coming out of T1 he was 4 seconds back of the eventual winner Ben Dijkstra, however the gap to the main pack opened up quickly with riders trying to to break away early. Tyler fell back to the chase pack of riders, and along with the Russian triathlete did the majority of the work on the bike to bridge the gap to the riders who had fallen off the tail end of the main pack. After a couple of unsuccessful break away attempts his group entered T2 together a minute down of the lead pack. His bike time was 29:32 for the 20k bike.

Tyler had a quick T2 but missed putting his helmet in his basket and was given a 10 Sec penalty. He ran well off the bike and served his penalty on the second lap. His run time was 17:43 for 5k , Coincidently he was running beside the Belgium athlete who also had to serve a penalty. They served it together and then had to sprint 100m to the finish. If was an exciting finish and although Tyler was out sprinted, he was very happy with his performance which was a personal best time of 58:11 and 19th overall

The relay event will take place on Thursday, August 21st and both Tyler and Erica Hawley will be competing.
