SUE EDNEY 3RD IN 50-59 AGE GROUP AT PENTICTON CHALLENGE HALF IRONMAN

Sue Edney finished 3rd in the 50-59 age group today ( Sunday 24th August 2014) in her 2nd Half Ironman at the Penticton Challenge Half Ironman in British Columbia, Canada.

Sue had the 7th fastest swim in her age group (37:23) for the 1.9 km fresh water lake wetsuit swim, 2nd fastest bike in 2hr 58 mins 36 secs for the 90km and the 3rd fastest run of 2 hrs : 10 mins :20 secs .

The run at midday was hot and Sue’s achilles, which had been bothering her for 2 weeks before the race, flared up with 5 km to go so she had to limp home.

Her age group was won by a very experienced leading Canadian age

grouper Diana Thaxter in 5 hrs : 38 mins 59 secs

Sue was 25th woman out of 191 women. She is coached by Jasper Blake of B78 Coaching.

Heather Cooper was unable to compete because of a shoulder injury but was on hand with her family to watch the race.

Christine Fletcher, of B78 coaching, was 4th in the women’s professional ranks over the Ironman distance. Christine, who coaches a number of Bermuda triathletes, will be in Bermuda to assist Jasper Blake and Mike Neill for the triathlon camps in February 2015.
