KAREN SMITH AND CHRIS HARRIS RESULTS

Karen Smith’s winning time and splits at the 2014 Ironman World Championships in the F45-49 age group :

2.4 MILE SWIM : 1HR 8 MINS 44 SECS

112 MILE BIKE   5HRS 43 MINS 19 SECS

26.2 MILE RUN  3HRS 36 MINS 13 SECS  FASTEST IN AGE GROUP

TOTAL : 10 HRS 36 MINS 37 SECS   IST IN AGE GROUP    FEMALE RANKING ( 63RD – including professional finishers)

Karen caught 2nd place finisher Dianne Hassel in the last mile of the run by running a sub 7 minute mile. Hassel finished in 10 hrs  37 mins  42 secs

As expected Chris Harris produced a strong run, his best discipline, to move up the rankings in the Male 45-49 age group  with the following times :

SWIM : 1HR 38 MINS 06 SECS

BIKE : 6HRS 49 MINS 05 SECS

RUN : 3HRS 21 MINS 44 SECS

TOTAL : 12HRS 02 MINS 26 SECS          175TH IN AGE GROUP

Sebastian Kienle of Germany was the mens overall winner after establishing a lead going into T2 and then producing a strong run to win comfortably by over 4 minutes. Womens’ defending champion Mirinda Carfrae, like last year, had one of the fastest runs of the day to take overall womens’ honours. Only four male professionals beat her run time of 2hrs 50 mins 26 secs.
