KAREN SMITH WINS HER AGE GROUP AT HAWAII IRONMAN WORLD TRIATHLON CHAMPIONSHIPS

Karen Smith produced an outstanding performance today, Saturday 11th October, as she won the Female 45-49 age group in the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon World Championships.

After exiting the water in 11th place in her age group Karen worked her way up to 5th after the 112 mile bike. By mile 13 on the run she was in 2nd place but still almost 6 minutes off race leader Dianna Hassell of the USA. In a thrilling finish Karen caught her in the last mile to take top age group honours having taken 3rd in her age group in the 2010 championships.

At the time of this post the website seems to have frozen so splits are not available but proud husband Aaron EMailed me at 1.15AM Bermuda time (Sunday 12th October) to let me know the result.

CONGRATS TO KAREN SMITH ON WHAT RANKS AS CERTAINLY ONE OF THE BEST PERFORMANCES BY A BERMUDA AMATEUR ATHLETE.
