Nick Pilgrim took on the big boys as he raced today in the Clermont F1 Series draft legal race for 12 to 16 year olds. Nick finished a creditable 39th out of 64 starters but more importantly he was the 2nd 12 year old across the line.
Nick finished the 375 meter swim in 5 mins 54 secs and the 10km bike ride in 17.40 before completing the 2.5 km run in 12.07 for a total time, with transitions, of 37 mins 36 secs. The F1 Series attracts the best juniors in the USA so Nick’s performance against athletes of his own age was especially pleasing.
The F1 Youth boys race was won by 15 year old Canadian Pavlos Antoniades in 31 mins 45 secs.
Nick will now be joined by brother Alex and Lynsey Palmer in Sarasota for the next race in the F1 series next weekend whilst Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley will compete at the same venue in the equally competitive CAMTRI Sprint Triathlon which will double up as the North American Junior Championships. CAMTRI is the regional governing body for triathlon for the Americas, including Canada, the USA, Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico, Central America and South America so a very strong field is expected for this race.
