FOLLOWING ON FROM MY PREVIOUS REPORT I have now heard from Tyler’s dad Aaron that Tyler suffered a fall very early in the bike…. Here is Aaron’s report.
Tyler had a great swim and came out of the water tied for 17th at 11:16 only 22 seconds off the leader.
Unfortunately, Tyler had a spill on the bike right after mounting due to hitting some debris on the road (perhaps a water bottle) and this lost him value time. He got pretty scratched up but dusted himself off and got back on his bike. To make matters worse, the cable on his shoe snapped as a result of the crash and he was unable to fasten his right shoe for the race. This limited his pedal power and made it even more challenging for him to make up his lost time on the field during the bike of this draft legal race. He finished the bike with a relatively poor time of 29:21 however, was able to lead a large chase group into T2 moving his way back to 32nd place. He had a decent run in what appeared to be a slow course and recaptured a few spots to finish in 26th place.
