Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley race tomorrow, Friday 1st May, at the 2015 CAMTRI Americas Junior Triathlon Championships for 16-19 year olds in Monterrey Mexico. They both earned starting spots when they placed well (Tyler 6th and Erica 9th) at the Central America and Caribbean Championship two weeks ago in Guatemala.
The top 20 athletes from each of the regional champs (North America, South America, and Central America-Caribbean) will be at the start line . Tyler and Erica will both be looking for top 15 placings as this will guarantee them a entry at the world championships in Chicago in September.
Erica races at 5:45 pm and Tyler at 7pm in Monterey. Erica raced there last year when it was the host venue for the Youth Olympic Games qualifier. This will be Tyler’s first appearance there (he missed the race d last year due to a broken arm). For tomorrow’s race they are both under the guidance of Canadian junior elite coach Kelly Guest, who recently conducted an elite junior camp in Bermuda.
Unfortunately the race does not appear to have a website but this blog will have a report on the race and results will be posted on the ITU website at :
