
Tyler Butterfield suffered a broken chain today at the St. George, Utah Ironman 70.3 North American Championships 2015 and was forced to retire from the race.
After exiting the water in just under 25 minutes Butterfield had about 1 1/2 minutes to make up on the pre race favorites but the race blog reported that at around mile 30 of the bike he suffered the broken chain.
The race was won by the UK’s Tim Don in 3 hrs 51 mins 53 secs with Canada’s Brent McMahon from Victoria BC in 2nd and a fast charging Andreas Raelert of Germany in 3rd.
The DNF was a setback for Tyler has he seeks to accumulate points to qualify for the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii in October.
Tyler’s next scheduled race is the Brazil full Ironman on May 31st which doubles up as the Latin American Ironman Championships.
