Tyler Smith races again tomorrow, Saturday 17th July, against Europe’s elite 16-19 year old juniors in the Chateauroux ETU Junior Elite Triathlon, part of the European Junior Elite Series.
After a promising start at the ETU Junior Elite Triathlon in Holten, Nerthelands two weeks ago, Tyler returned to his training base in Northern Spain to continue training with the Canadian junior elite group under coach Kelly Guest. I spoke with Tyler and he says he is enjoying the experience and learning a lot. The facilities are very good in Spain and he has had the opportunity to rub shoulders with some top triathletes as Canadian National Coach Jamie Turner is also in Northern Spain with his athletes. Turner, in addition to his duties with the Canadian squads, coaches such elite athletes as world no 1 female Gwen Jorgensen.
Tyler admitted that the extreme heat at Holten got to him and he felt nauseous on the run but was looking forward to this race.
Tyler’s race gets underway at 1.15PM Bermuda time which is 6.15PM in Chateauroux.
