Tyler Smith, Erica Hawley and a group of young triathletes from the Tri Hedz Junior Triathlon Club will be racing in Magog, Quebec, Canada this weekend. Tri Hedz have gone on tour in the summer for many years and Magog is familiar territory for many of these juniors.
Tyler and Erica will be racing in the Canadian 16-19 Junior National Championships over 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run. After his 10th place last weekend in the ETU Junior Elite Series race in France, Tyler’s confidence will be high. Erica made a good start to the season competing at regional level but has not raced at this level for a couple of months so these championships will be a good test for her as she searches for a wild card entry into the 16-19 World Championships in Chicago in September.
After qualifying recently to represent the South West of England in the UK regional youth 13-15 triathlon championships Alex Pilgrim should place well in the Canadian 13-15 Youth Triathlon Championships over a 500 meter swim, 15km bike and 4km run.
Competition will be tough as junior triathlon in Canada is very strong and a lot of top clubs will be competing across the whole range of junior races including the Youth and National Championships which will feature some world class juniors.
Racing gets underway tomorrow, Saturday 25th July at 6.45 AM ET with the Youth Championships and will be followed by the Junior Championships for men at 7.30 AM and for women at 8.30AM. Many of the Tri Hedz juniors will then race in a series of races for 7 to 15 year olds over various distances.
Results will follow.
