Tyler Smith, Erica Hawley and Alex Pilgrim produced excellent performances today at the Canadian National Triathlon Champs in Magog, Quebec.
Tyler finished 11th out of 76 in the Junior Elite 16-19 men’s race in 59 mins 43 secs with splits of 9 min 43 secs for the 750m swim, 31:40 for the 20km bike and 17.02 for the 5km run. As in Europe, Tyler was off the bike with the lead group but was unable to match the run pace set by the top 10, all of whom went quicker than 17 mins. However, as pointed out many times, Tyler has two more years in this age group so his performance was outstanding. The winner was Stefan Daniel in a 58 min 26 secs.
Racing over the same distance in the women’s 16-19 elite juniors race, Erica was also impressive as she finished 14th out of 58 in 1hr 09 mins. Her splits were not available at press time. Like Tyler, Erica will still be competing in this age group next year. The winner was Kyla Roy in 1hr 6 mins.
Alex Pilgrim raced earlier in the 13-15 Youth Canadian Championships and finished in a very creditable 12th place out of 57 competitors in 43 mins 57 secs with splits of 7 mins 39 secs for the 500 meter swim, 18 min 37 secs for the 15km bike and 16 mins 21 secs for the 4km run. Alex also still has another year in this age group. The winner was Pavlos Antoniades in a very quick 38 mins 54 secs.
Rebecca Harrison raced in the 13-15 Youth Girls Championships and finished 51st out of 56 in 57 mins 17 secs.
More Bermuda results to follow.
