Erica Hawley produced a solid performance today in her first ever 16-19 Junior Elite Triathlon World Championships.
After a disappointing swim of 10 min 45 secs for the 750 meters Erica was 1 min 47 sec down on the leaders and in 64th place out of 67 starters but worked her way up on the bike to exit on to the run in 50th position. Erica then showed just how much her run has improved by finishing 44th in 1hr 05 41 secs.
The race was won by Germany’s Laura Lindemann in 57 min 28 secs, almost a minute ahead of silver medalist Taylor Knibb of the USA.
With two more years to go in this age group Erica can take a lot of encouragement out of this performance especially as she can certainly produce a stronger swim that would have put her even further up the field had she been able to work with one of the faster bike groups.
