This report from Julia Hawley from San Andres at the Junior Caribbean and Central American Triathlon Championships 2016.
It was a brutally tough day of racing for both Tyler and Erica. The course had a tough bike with a severe climb on each of 4 laps. The weather was insanely hot. The race started 2 hours late so Erica went at 9am and Tyler at 10am.

Erica came out of water in 2nd with a small group of girls. The Costa Rica girl immediately powered away on the bike with the Venezuelan girl. Erica and the Brazilian girl worked together in 3/4. The race didn’t have very big packs at all because it was such a hard bike.
Erica was 4th starting the run and the Brazilian girl started to pull away. On the start of the 2nd lap Erica was still in 4th but the Brazilian and Venezuelan were close enough for Erica to see. She just dug so deep and worked her way up to 2nd on that 2nd lap of run and she got the silver!! A great race in very challenging conditions.
And from Tyler
I felt great leading for most of the swim. I attacked on the 3rd lap of the bike and the El Salvadorian race winner bridged up but I sat up when it looked like the pack would catch. I went back to the pack but suffered during the run.
