ERICA HAWLEY FINISHING YESTERDAY

Erica Hawley, despite less than ideal preparations for the event, finished a respectable 19th yesterday at the CAMTRI Pan American Junior Elite Triathlon Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.

Erica’s result means that she will again join Tyler Smith as Bermuda’s two juniors at the 16-19 Junior Elite World Championships in Cozumel, Mexico in September 2016.

Here is Julia Hawley’s race report :

Erica’s race was dominated by Taylor Knibb who just finished 11th at her first WTS Stockholm behind winner Flora Duffy ! Erica came out of the water in about 20th or so. 3 small 8 person packs formed and Erica was in 3rd pack. They worked hard and caught the 2nd pack by T2. The top pack split and it became a foot race for the WC spots as everyone was within a minute of each other!! It was brutally hot at nearly 90 degrees today! Erica ran well enough to take the final WC spot! She is so happy as for her the last month has not been ideal preparation as she had all her A level final exams and was finishing at Millfield School  with a lot of distractions at the end of school. Now she is qualified she goes to Victoria and trains/races in Canada for the rest of summer and is looking forward to just focusing on training and improving over the next 2 months!!
