Bermuda’s up and coming junior Nick Pilgrim produced another good performance this past Sunday 10th July, finishing 24th in a field of 63 in the competitive Flatlands Triathlon in Des Moines, Iowa over a 375m swim, 10km draft legal bike and 2.5km run.
The race was one of four qualifying events in the USA Triathlon’s Youth Elite Series for 13-15 yearolds with qualifiers earning the right to compete in the USA Triathlon Youth draft legal championships to be hosted in West Chester, Ohio in July 30-31, 2016. It therefore attracted a strong field.
In hot conditions Nick was 33rd out of the water in 5 min 33 secs and then rode the 10km in 17 min 41 secs before finishing the run in 9 min 34 secs for a total time, with transitions, of 34 :42. The event was won by Zach Wilson in 30:19.
Nick’s result was encouraging as he was the 2nd fastest out of 13 year olds in a race series that is attracting the best 13-15 year olds in the USA.
