Jasmin Hasselkuss and Blake Oliviera led the way earlier today at the Kids of Steel Triathlons in Ottawa with Jasmin taking 2nd place (with the same time as the winner in what must have been a sprint finish) in the girls under 11 and Blake taking 2nd in the Boys under 11. However, looking at the run splits in this age group I suspect that there may have been some confusion on the run course as Blake’s time of 9 mins 34 secs compared to Jasmine’s time of 8:34 suggests that they did not do the same course. There were also some girls who finished lower down the order with run times of just over 6 minutes. At press time I am waiting clarification on whether there were problems on the run.
In the Under 13 race Amber Simons showed that she will be one to watch in the future as she took 7th place amongst the girls. Zoe Hasselkuss had a solid race finishing 13th with Lianne Medeiros in 18th and Megan Hands in 24th. Lindsay Smith completed the swim and bike but did not finish the run.
Not to be outdone by the youngsters, Karen Smith won her age group in the draft legal sprint event, finishing 8th overall amongst the women as she continues her comeback from injury. Dirk Hasselkuss (11th)Tom Hands (12th) and Otis Ingham (13th) in the mens 50-54 age group were the other Bermuda results.
