As already reported Erica Hawley was 8th at last weekend’s Montreal Canadian Junior Triathlon Series. Here is her race report :
This was one of the most exhilarating and exciting races that I have done so far! The world cup event was after ours so there was extensive support from the crowd and a lot of hype going into it. I had a solid swim coming out at the back of the lead pack (13 of 15) and we had a long run up to transition. I unfortunately just missed that pack but had a couple of girls with me so we worked together for the majority of the race. The bike was extremely challenging and included 4 short punchy hills, 2 180’ turns, cobblestones and a strong wind per lap! There were many crashes due to the nature of the course and the technicality so I’m pleased I avoided these and stayed safe. The run consisted of 3 laps and I was around 45 seconds down getting off the bike. I came off the bike in 11th position and managed to run myself up to 8th. All in all it was a great race that really tested me mentally as I needed to be focused at all times. I also got to watch my teammates and Flora take the win which is always inspiring and exciting.
CORRECTION : Tyler Smith finished 36th,and not 31st as previously reported, out of 48 starters in last weekends Montreal World Cup Triathlon ,his first race in the “open” adult ranks in a race that featured a large number of the world’s top 100 triathletes.
