Tyler Smith finished an impressive 6th today, out of 64 starters, in Verdun, Quebec in the Quebec Provincial Junior Elite Triathlon Championships, part of the Canadian 2016 Junior Elite Race Series.
Due to poor water conditions the race was changed to a duathlon. Tyler was 5th after the first 5km run which he completed in 14 mins 23 secs. He then stayed up close to the leaders on the bike finishing the 20km in 31 mins 24 secs. He ran the final 2.5km in 8 mins 16 secs for an overall time of 54:04.
The juniors raced alongside the Under 23 elites so the results include their results.Tyler was 7th overall.
He now heads to Victoria,BC where he will be training with other Canadian junior elite triathletes with coach Kelly Guest (this visit will be Tyler’s third to Victoria to train with the group) ahead of taking up his place at Leeds University where he will be training with one of the leading triathlon programmes in the UK (more to follow)
