Bermuda age group report – Ironman 70.3 World Championships 2016

With only top qualifiers allowed to compete, the Ironman 70.3 Age Group World Championships provided stiff competition for Bermuda’s four participants.

Ashley Estanwik produced an excellent performance to finish 13th in the women’s 35-39 age group with a time of 5hrs 2 mins 50 secs. Allison Schindel (Petty) was 109th in the same age group in 6 hrs 2 mins 48 secs.

Close friends Phil Mace and Neil Lupsic finished an amazing 22 secs apart in the mens 40-44 age group after close to 5 hours of racing. Phil recorded a time of 27:27 for the swim with Neil trailing him  in 32 : 18. Neil made up some time on the bike as he finished the bike in 2:29:21 to Phil’s 2:32:44. Phil still held a lead going into the run but Neil caught him with a run of 1:30:34 with Phil posting 1:33:53. Neil finished in 4 hrs 41 mins 37 secs for 68th in the age group whilst Phil’s time was 4 hrs 41 mins 59 secs for 70th in the age group.
