FROM BECKY SHEPHERD :
We thought that we would add to the overseas reports with the low down on our efforts in the Triathlon de Mont Blanc which was based in and around Lac de Passy near Chamonix on 20 August (post-race picture – Mont Blanc is hiding behind the clouds, honest!).
We did the Olympic distance – although the bike had been billed as a slightly long 45km with a 900m climb and then a fast descent, fortunately for us heavy rain during the morning of race day meant that they changed it to an approx. 40km bike with a couple of 200m ascents instead (it was still a bit hilly for me, although Alec likes that kind of thing). The swim and run were the usual distances, although the rain had turned the run into a muddy cross country effort for part of it, which was good fun and a bit of a change. Anyway, results etc. below:
Alec – 2h 25m 05s and 9th in the 45-49 age group: Swim – 28m 38s; Bike – 1h 09m 10s; Run – 45m 12s
Becky – 2h 33m 52s and 3rd in the 40-44 age group: Swim – 28m 25s; Bike – 1h 17m 42s; Run – 46m 01s
It was an excellent event and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It was also a pleasant change to be racing in a cooler climate!
