Tyler Butterfield recorded his first win of the season as he won today’s Ironman 70.3 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Tyler emerged from the water with the leaders but was unable to match the pace of former professional cyclist Andrew Yoder on the bike, trailing Yoder by over 3 minutes going onto the run. Yoder however faded as the run progressed and Tyler began to eat into his lead as the 80 degree heat began to take its toll. Meanwhile Jackson Laundry of Canada was quickly closing on Tyler and by mile 3 was just 20 seconds behind him.
In the end it was Tyler who proved the strongest crossing the line with a comfortable lead ; he even had time to “high five” spectators.
Tyler’s splits were 25:02 swim, 2:06:28 bike and 1:19:22 run for a total time of 3:53:22. Yoder was 2nd.
