Tyler Smith produced a strong performance today at the iconic Blenheim Palace finishing 3rd today, Sunday 4th June, in the UK Junior Elite Sprint Championships, a qualifier for the British team for the European Junior Elite Championships.
Tyler, who is enrolled at Leeds University where he trains with a number of the UK’s leading senior and junior triathletes, emerged from the 750m swim in 9 min 33 secs with the eventual winner Barclay Izzard and matched him on the 19.8km bike in 28 min 37 secs but faded slightly on the 5.4 run to record a time of 18 min 55 secs which was still the 5th fastest run time out of 19 competitors. Izzard, one of the UK’s leading juniors, blitzed the run in 17:32 to finish in 58 mins 56 secs. Will Crudgington used his strong swim of 9 min 10 secs and solid bike to edge Tyler and Izzard into T2 and matched Tyler’s run time to finish in 1 hr 00 min 05 secs with Tyler crossing the line in 1:00:41.
The result will do Tyler’s confidence the world of good as he moves into the critical part of the season.
