Flora Duffy was not the only Bermuda elite triathlete competing in Leeds last weekend as Bermuda elite junior Tyler Smith, who is attending Leeds University, lined up in the junior elite race over shorter super sprint distances.
After an excellent podium finish at the recent British Junior Elite Championships Tyler is coming into some good form ahead of the CAMTRI American Junior Championships on July 15th where he will attempt to qualify for the Junior World Championships in Holland in September.
In Leeds Tyler had an impressive swim as he led out of the water but in the shorter super sprint distances two slowish transitions cost him time and his T2 / run in particular took him away from the podium positions. Tyler crossed the line in 34:07 with the winner Nathan Smith, who came out of the water just behind Tyler, producing an excellent all round performance to finish in 33:08 .
Tyler’s splits ( winner’s splits in brackets)
Swim 4:55 (4:59), T1 3:04 (2:57), Bike 15:24 (14:58), T2 (not shown – might be in run time) , Run 8:40 (8:17).
