ERICA ON THE RUN TODAY

Erica Hawley battled through a painful shoulder injury ( an injury that put her out of the Austria race two weeks ago) and a broken gear cable to finish 27th today ( 1st July) in Holten, Netherlands in a Junior European Cup event.

Erica entering the race was a bit of a gamble with the shoulder injury especially with a field stacked with the best juniors in Europe . In recent events Erica has been able to exit the water with the lead group but she was almost a minute down on the leaders heading into T1 after a 9 min 56 sec swim. She then suffered a broken gear cable that left her riding most of the 20km bike in her hardest gear. Despite that misfortune she battled on a recorded an encouraging run time of 20:14 for an overall time of 1:07:41. The winner was Sif Bendix Madsen of Denmark in 1:02:46
