Karen Smith finished an impressive 6th woman overall today in Magog, Quebec as she comfortably won the women’s 45-49 age group over 1900m swim, 90km bike and 21.1km run. The event attracted a good field as it was a qualifier event for the ITU Long Course World Championships 2018.
Karen’s splits were swim 31 min 33 secs, bike 2 hrs 51 min 33 secs and run 1 hr 44 mins 48 secs for an overall time of 5 hrs 11 mins 33 secs. The 2nd place finisher in her age group recorded a time of 6hrs 05 mins 21 secs.
Karen also finished 46th overall.
Meanwhile Dirk Hasselkuss took on a combined sprint distance (750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run on Saturday) and Olympic distance (1500m, 40km and 10km on Sunday) challenge and amongst the “Combo” competitors won his 55-59 age group in both the sprint ( 1 hr 23 mins 39 secs and Olympic distance ( 2 hrs 53 mins 43 secs) events. Amongst the “combo athletes Dirk was 42nd overall in the Olympic distance event and 48th overall in the sprint distance event.
