Tyler Smith finished an excellent 10th out of 55 starters yesterday ( 15th July) in Magog, Quebec, Canada in the CAMTRI Triathlon 2017 Junior American Championships featuring the best 16-19 year old junior triathletes in South, Central and North America and the Caribbean.
The result means that Tyler has qualified for the Junior World Triathlon Championships 2017 in Rotterdam, Netherlands in September.

Tyler completed the all important 750 meter swim in 9 min 29 secs in touch with the lead swimmers and an excellent transition meant that he was able to join the lead pack of cyclists for the 20km bike. He finished the bike in 31:41 and exited T2 with the lead group. He then posted a very respectable 16:12 for the 5km run to finish in 58 mins 34 secs with the top 10 all within 58 secs of each other.

The race was won by the USA’s Darr Smith who ran 15:13 to finish in 57:36 and edge out two Mexicans, Aram Penjaflor Moysen (57:37) and Abraham Rodriguez Moreno (57:39) in a sprint for the line.
It was an excellent confidence boosting performance for Tyler as he now prepares for his last Junior Triathlon World Champs.
