Lynsey Palmer qualifies for USAT Junior Triathlon Championships

17 year old Lynsey Palmer has qualified for the USAT Junior Triathlon Championships. As she is not a US citizen Lynsey has been granted a solidarity spot following her impressive performance in the final qualifier race in Des Moines, Iowa on the 9th July where she competed in the junior 16-19 elite sprint distance race . Although Lynsey finished well within the remaining 17 qualification spots available ,as a Bermudian she was deemed ineligible for direct qualification.

Lynsey completed the draft legal 750m swim, 20km bike and 5km run in Iowa in 1 hr 10 min 54 secs which was good enough for 31st place out of 52 starters. Her race splits were 11:51 swim, 35:18 bike and 21:42 run. Lynsey’s race chip strap came off in the swim and she stopped to put it back on which lost her valuable time and meant that she did not exit in time to catch on to one of the leading groups.

The field included many of the leading US junior athletes and was won by Addison Smith in 1:04:40.
