TYLER SMITH LEADS THE GROUP OF SEVEN THROUGH ONE OF THE MANY TECHNICAL CORNERS ON THE ROTTERDAM COURSE IN WET AND WINDY CONDITIONS

Tyler Smith executed the perfect race today to take a very impressive 11th at the ITU World Junior Triathlon Championships today, Saturday 16th September.

In cold and wet conditions in Rotterdam, Tyler critically emerged from the 750m swim  with the leaders in 9 min 06 secs just 10 secs behind the first swimmer out. After a solid transition Tyler was in an excellent position in the lead pack going into the 20km bike.

Importantly for Tyler, who’s weakest discipline is the run, the lead group whittled down to just 7 athletes with Tyler working hard in the group and clocking 29 minutes and 26 secs, the fastest bike of the day.
Tyler got caught by a few faster runners in the chase pack but was happy with his 16:38 5km run time.
In the end his total time of 57:18 was 1:24 behind race winner Matthew Houser (Australia) with 55:54 and just 43 seconds off the podium.

Congratulations to Tyler who has really put in the work over the past few years and this result is well deserved.
