Bermuda’s triathlon community and the general public had the chance to rub shoulders today, Sunday 24th September, with Bermuda’s world champion triathlete Flora Duffy. Flora used the Tokio Millenium Re Triathlon in Hamilton to thank her sponsors and her Bermuda supporters and did the swim as part of a team with Ashley Estanwik and Martina Olcheski – Bell.
And Flora, with the help of her team, continued her winning ways by emerging first from the water and giving her team a healthy lead going into the bike portion. In the end her team recorded the fastest time of the day of 1 hr 06 mins 20 secs.
Bermuda’s junior triathletes had the chance to get Flora’s autograph and to have pictures taken with Flora in a day of celebration.
It has been quite a week for Flora as Warwick Academy also announced that their pool facility will be named after her. Flora completed the first part of her high school education at the school before enrolling in boarding school in the UK for her final high school years.
Here’s what Flora had to say on her INSTAGRAM page :
Tokio Millennium Triathlon this morning. Wonderful to see so many kids there. Thanks for coming to say hi.
Glad I could be here this weekend for the event. Tokio have supported me for the last few years- and I am so grateful for that!
