Kent Richardson finished on top of the podium yesterday (Saturday 24th February) as he won the men’s 50 + age group by just under 2 minutes at the 2018 Salud XTerra in Salinas, Ecuador. On a hot day but under clear skies, Kent produced the 3rd fastest bike time of the day and was an impressive 7th male finisher out of 159 and 8th overall out of 191. Kent’s training partner, professional triathlete Liz Bravo, was the top woman and 4th overall.

URGENT CALL FOR SECTOR HEAD MANAGERS – WTS BERMUDA
Are you ready and willing to have an inside view of MS Amlin WTS Bermuda?
As you know, World Triathlon Bermuda is not that long away now and preparations are coming along to make it a fantastic event for the island. Part of the BTA’s role has been to find suitable volunteers to fill management roles (“sector heads”) overseeing different aspects of the event, to make sure everything runs smoothly. We currently have members who will manage such areas as the bike and run courses for the elite and Age Group events, the Age Group transition zone, the Start and Finish area, the VIP guests and the medal ceremony, the event branding, the transport for the athletes, the registration area, and so on. As you will see, these are important positions which give an opportunity to be very closely involved.
Unfortunately, 2 people have had to drop out from their roles owing to other commitments, so we are looking for 2 more volunteers to take their place. There is some reward available for anyone who takes on one of these roles and there will be plenty of job satisfaction! The work for these roles has not really started yet so anyone joining up will not have to play catch-up. They will, however, need to attend a few (not many) meetings over the next few weeks and be available to work full time for 3-4 days in the week beginning April 23rd.
Who is free and willing?!
If you would like to put yourself forward, or know someone who would, please contact us as soon as possible. Time is running short, so we need to be able to fill these positions urgently. Your help would be much appreciated.
Thank you.

FROM BERMUDA TRIATHLON ASSOCIATION NEWSLETTER :
Easter Triathlon Junior Camp 10+
Coach : USA’s Matt Valyo and assistant coach Gabby.
Cost : $350 for the week and can be prorated if can only attend part of camp.
Dates: April 3rd thru’ 7th or 8th
Matt’s thoughts at this point (subject to change):
The camp will run as follows:
The first two days, the kids will be in the same group working skills while I assess them. When my assistant arrives we will break them into age groups (12 and under, 13 and older) for most of the remaining week. Both groups will get a great experience. My assistant Gabby raced draft legal here in the US since 2012, has been an assistant at my elite camps for the past 2 years and has been the head coach of my youth camps for 2 years. She is a sophomore at UConn here in the states.

If ever there was a world “dedicated age group triathlete” prize then Bermuda’s Kent Richardson would be in contention.
Kento, as he is known, does not only follow a rigorous training schedule but has spent decades travelling the world to race and to find optimal places to train.
After a successful period of training and racing at altitude in Ecuador in 2017, Kento returned to Salinas, Ecuador last week to both train at altitude but also race in the Saludsa Xterra Triathlon on Saturday 24th February. Kento is hoping to qualify for the XTerra World Championships in Hawaii later in the year, a race he has previously competed in. This weekend’s race consists of an 800m swim, 16km mountain bike and 5km cross country run. He will be racing in the 50+ category
Kento is also thinking of entering the Ecuador 70.3 Triathlon on the 4th March which also takes place in Salinas. He says it would be a “training exercise” !
