Bermuda’s two leading 16-19 junior elite athletes, Tyler Smith and Erica Hawley have both been quietly preparing for the new season with some big races ahead.
Erica is back in Boulder, Colorado but has taken a sabbatical to prepare for the 2018 season as she looks to on a strong 2017 season. She has been on a team training camp in Arizona making the most of the warmer conditions in Tucson, a popular winter training base for US and Canadian elite athletes.
Erica will get her 2018 season off to a big start as she competes in the adult section of the 2018 of the 2018 America Cup Central American and Caribbean Championships. The race takes place in Bridgetown, Barbados on February 18th, 2018 and has attracted some strong US and Canadian entries. Erica will then take part in the Commonwealth Games in April representing Bermuda in the team event and also in the individual event.
And this from Tyler Smith :
Things are going really well. I got the opportunity to go out to Spain for a couple weeks to get a good block of training done, but back in Leeds now trying to get through the rest of the winter. I think I’ll be starting off the season with a European Sprint Cup in Gran Canaria, and then head down to Gold Coast for Commonwealths.
Definitely excited with where my current form is.
Tyler will also be competing in both the individual and team event at the Commonwealth Games.
