ERICA HAWLEY ON THE RUN AT THE NEW PLYMOUTH WORLD CUP TRIATHLON LAST SUNDAY

Erica Hawley had perhaps her biggest test ever last Sunday 25th March as watched by family she competed in her first senior world cup race in New Plymouth,New Zealand.

The field included many of the world’s top 50 ranked triathletes, a number of whom, like Erica, were preparing for the Commonwealth Games in a week’s time.

In challenging rainy conditions the Digicel sponsored triathlete put together a solid performance but her participation was very much intended as a learning experience for the young Bermudian.

Erica finished 31st for the sprint distance race in 1:09:36 with splits of 750m swim – 11:11, 20km bike – 37:46 and 5km run 19:42. The race was won by Kirsten Kasper of the USA in 1:03:20.
