There will be a swim ( 750 meters or 1600 meters ) at 4PM on Saturday from Harrington Sound School Dock. A great way to get ready and relaxed for May 24th. This swim is not an official event so you swim at your own risk. We have had a good turnout.
Many of you will remember Bevan, two time Olympic medalist and last year’s guest speaker at the BTA dinner.
After moving over to longer distance racing Bevan got off to a great start in 2013 by winning Ironman NZ in his home town of Taupo but after a series of great 70.3 and Ironman races his form dropped ( although he still placed well in a number of races). He blamed this drop on nutritional problems which he has worked on in the off season. As you will see from his race report at the link below for this weekend’s race, he appears to be putting those problems behind him.
Congrats to Bevan on a great race.
Flora Duffy blew away the competition today in the XTerra USA Southeast Championships in Alabama winning by four minutes in 2 hrs 32 mins and 2 secs. Duffy was out of the swim with the lead men and opened up a sizeable gap on the bike that gave her an insurmountable lead going into the run. In her previous two races Duffy won the XTerra USA West Coast Championships and the Xterra Asia Pacific Championships so today’s win makes it three in a row. Spain’s Javier Gomez made it three Triathlon World Cup Series wins in a row in a thrilling sprint finish with his young compatriot Mario Mola with South Africa’s Murray making the podium for the first time as he finished third. British brothers Alastair and Jonathan Brownleee were surprisingly unable to hold the fast run pace and finished 4th and 5th.
The US Gwen Jorgensen showed that if she gets off the bike with or near the leaders she can simply outrun her opponents as she won the female title.
